I should probably preface this by saying that I am a full on leftists, I believe in healthcare, housing, nutrition and education for all. That I am a dirt worshiping, tree hugging peacenik. But I have seen the writing on the wall, and I am ferociously pro Second Amendment and don't understand how liberals can watch what happened on January 6th, and ask the same people that helped that happen, to disarm them.
You see where this is going, right? The left doesn't love me, because I think the Second Amendment is one of the most important rights that Americans have for reasons that should be obvious to anyone possessing critical thinking skills. The right doesn't want me, because I support poor people, LGBTQ+, believe capitalism is destroying our culture, and by extension our planet.
All of that said, someone asked me how we could address the issues of gun violence without gun bans. I have some ideas.
We could begin by enforcing the laws we already have. Mass shootings are in reality suicides with a great big "fuck you" attached to them. Usually, there are indications on social media accounts and elsewhere that a person is going to do something like this, and they mostly go ignored until it's too late.
Give people something to live for. Also our culture sucks because our value system sucks. Think about who young people idolize and why. Like it or not, they are role models. Changing our value system, would mean changing our heroes.
What are our youth learning from our politics, when everything is fair play and the rich can break laws at will, without facing the same repercussions that regular people have to face? What does that tell them about Justice in the world?
When was the last time anyone said anything about the young that didn't involve some mean spirited jab or criticism, or demeaning them for things like eating avocado toast, or not wanting to be exploited for labor anymore?
Whatever happens to the generation that wanted their kids to do better and have more opportunities than they did? Where did that kind of parenting go?
It's not a mystery. Think about what it's like to be young today. No future other than wage slavery, perpetual debt and an uncertain future in a planet divided by people that would like to do something about the incoming global crisis, and people who think God will save us from ourselves.
