New Aeon Religion?
Only for the masses
Many people worry that AI will repeat the same flaws as humans, but they often see orders from the government or religion as something separate. This shows how we tend to hand over moral authority without thinking about where it really comes from.
AI, like religion, is a tool people use to justify following the rules or breaking them, often putting their own values onto something outside themselves. People keep ascribing virtues to AI or religion, instead of seeing those qualities in themselves. But recognizing those qualities means we must possess them. This is the aim of Thelema.
The projection of the best qualities humanity has to offer outward toward people or government is, at best, a kind of unintentional magick. At worst, it is harmful and sometimes even done to us on purpose; in that case, we should consider it black magick.
AI has become like the opium of the masses. Marx said religion works like a drug, giving people false comfort and stopping them from making their lives better or questioning the system that causes their problems. Technological advancement will not teach us to rely on ourselves. AI is a model for dependence, just like religion was/is.
This pattern does not seem to change much over time. When people keep giving up their own virtues to outside authorities or ideas, they hold back their own growth and self-realization to everyone’s detriment.
